The USCIS has recently announced that it has redesigned the Permanent Resident Card, otherwise known as the "Green Card." The enhanced features of the card will better serve all aspects of the immigrants and law enforcements duties. Some of the redesigns include:
  • Secure Optical Media - this will store your biometrics for rapid identification;
  • Holographic images including laser engraved fingerprints - this will make the card more secure and harder to be utilized in identify theft;
  • Radio Frequency Identification - this will allow Customs and Border Protection to read the card from a distance and immediately compare it to your file and data in the system;
  • A preprinted return address - this will allow easy return of any lost cards.
The USCIS will replace older versions of the Green Card with this new updated one as individuals apply for either renewal or replacement.
